DJ Decks - Technics
Generally regarded as the 'industry standard' , the Technics SL1210 first appeared in the 1970's. It's almost fair to say DJ'ing evolved around the Technics deck as it was one of the first turntables with pitch control.
The motor on the SL1210 is the key to its' success, it is a true direct drive motor. This is to say that the platter is actually part of the motor. Simply put, a motor is two magnets going in opposite directions, the underside of the SL1210 platter is one of those two magnets. This is one of the reasons the deck is so stable and reliable.
The solid build also managed to withstand the harsh nightclub environments and some venues have had their Technics decks for over 10 years.
The newer SL1210mk5 and MK5G are based on the existing SL1210Mk2 with slight differences to the pitch control and power switch.
One of the most common qustion asked is 'what is the difference between the SL1200 and the SL1210?' The answer to this is simple... colour! The SL1200 is traditionally silver and the SL1210 is black. This applies to the UK and Europe at least, America and Japan have been known to have black SL1200's in the past.
